Nutella Strawberry Crescent Treats

I don't normally post on Sundays.

But, hey. Why not, right?

Anyway, I had come across a great little recipe on Pinterest the other day, which involved cutting crescent roll dough into squares and filling those squares with a slice of banana, peanut butter and chocolate chips. Then sealing them up like little packets. And then baking, of course.

Well, Hubby and I were super excited about the idea and tried it.  And it was...ok.  But the combo of bananapeanutbutterchocolate was just too much. Like too rich in some bites, not sweet enough in others.  Some bites weren't terribly palatable. But, the experiment gave me inspiration, so we tried another crescent dough filling combo the next night.

This experiment was much more successful.

And Über delectable.

The recipe is super simple, and easy for little hands to help with.  The end result is little bites of goodness, perfect for tiny kid mouths!  Since I'm all about the visuals, I've once again chronicled the recipe tutorial with pictures. But again, forgive me for the pics not being terribly professional.

And I hope you make these, like, yesterday.

Nutella Strawberry Crescent Treats

Ingredients

  • 1 tube of crescent roll dough (I used reduced fat)
  • 1/2 cup of Nutella
  • 2 or 3 large strawberries, sliced
  • Sugar, for coating (I used Raw Sugar)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

On a baking sheet (I covered mine with parchment paper),
unroll crescent roll sheets

Pinch together seams

Cut dough into small rectangles
(for 1 tube, I got 12 rectangles)

Spoon 1 TBS of Nutella on each rectangle of dough
(you don't have to say it. I know what the dabs of Nutella look like)

Place 1 strawberry slice on top of Nutella

Fold up dough over strawberry/Nutella and seal edges.

(Here they are sitting pretty on the baking sheet, all sealed up)

Sprinkle with sugar (I used Raw Sugar).
You can also skip this step, they will still taste scrumtrulescent.

Place baking sheet in preheated oven for 11-13 minutes,
or until the crescents are puffed and baked golden.

Take them out of the oven,
and let cool before serving.

And then stack them on a serving dish,
because they deserve to be shown off a bit.

And then get impatient, and take a bite.
You might burn your mouth, but it's well worth it.
Be sure to admire your culinary handiwork.

I'm realizing that the filling combinations are endless, so I look forward to creating new concoctions.  Jam or Jelly!  Leftover Halloween candy!  Fruit!  Heck, we could even go savory with veggies and hummus!  AUGH!  It's mind-blowing!

I'd love to hear how these turn out for you.  Even better? Let me know what combinations YOU try.  I want to be inspired!

Have a happy Sunday!
