Pinteresting Ideas: Kid Stuff

I finally gave into peer pressure and got myself invited to Pinterest.  And, as promised by those who put the heat on to join, I am obsessed.  Well. Maybe not obsessed, per se. But I spend a lot of time scrolling through massive amounts of inspirational and motivating pins.  I click them, like them, comment on them, and ultimately repin them to the many boards I have created.  I find so many pins that inspire me to redecorate, construct, craft or cook, I am overloaded!

So, obsessed? Ok. Maybe a little.

Not sure what Pinterest is?  Are you on Pinterest and just "don't get it?" Yeah, I was once where you are.  But it's a quick learn, and a fun one at that.

Quick Tutorial: Pinterest for Dummies

For those who don't know what Pinterest is, the best way to describe it is an online room with a bunch of virtual bulletin boards.  Just as you would have one to hang in your kitchen to pin up important documents, cute pictures, reminders, etc, Pinterest boards allow you to organize all of your online finds in one place.  You can create many boards, with different headings - Crafts, Food, Kids, Photography, Interior Design, Holiday Ideas, etc.

After creating your boards, you can do one of 2 things:

1) Scroll through the infinite amount of pins already created by other users and add them to your boards.  These pins are a picture that links to the original website/blog where the pin originated.  As you scroll, you might find a pin for a recipe you like (we'll say chicken casserole).  The picture looks scrumptious, and you might just want to make it sometime. You can then repin the pin to one of your boards (I'd recommend the "Food" board for this one), so that way it is there when you are ready to use the recipe.

2) Create your own pins.  Using the chicken casserole example, let's pretend you have been scouring the internet for a good chicken salad recipe. You finally find one (say, the Slowcooker Chicken Casserole at CSHM), and need a place to store it until you are ready to use it.  Instead of writing the URL down on a piece of paper (only to lose it) or email yourself the website (which will inevitably get lost in your inbox), you can create a pin of the page where the recipe resides.  (It's not hard to create a pin. If you are on Pinterest - you are given the option to have a Pin It put into your bookmarks, so that when you find a page you want to pin, you just click on "Pin It"-  and Pinterest automatically brings up all the images you can associate with the link).

This is a very short tutorial on a great website. For those who want more clarification, I can go into more detail in a future post.  But for now, I wanted to start sharing some great Pins I found that I absolutely love.  With so many boards, I'll try to share a few from each board over the next few weeks (especially with the holidays around the corner).

Today I have a few Kid pins to share.  Some of the ideas are SO CUTE:

I bought the materials to make these butterflies, and plan on surprising Little Chica this week by placing one in her lunch for school each day!

I just bought a large box of diapers, which I plan to use as the base of this DIY felt board! All I need is some felt.

What an awesome gift idea - and a frugal one at that!

If I only had an open set of stairs....

This will keep Little Chica occupied for a long time.  How creative!

I have even more on my Kids board on Pinterest.  As well as an embarrassing number of other boards that I just keep filling and filling and filling....

Are you on Pinterest?
What do you love?
What recent finds have inspired you?

If you want an invite to Pinterest, leave a comment below with your email - and I'll be happy to send you an invite so you, too, can become obsessed.

Happy Pinning!

  1. I just found your blog as I did a search for "stay at home moms". I also just read a family member's comment about how they are addicted to this, and I had no idea what it meant. Thank you for your post and I look forward to reading more of your blog in the future. I too have a blog, which doesn't get updated too often with a baby in the house, but I'd love for you to take a look:)

  2. I love Pinterest. I use it for all my Wordless Wednesday posts and geekery. So I have a lot of quotations and pictures of Chewbacca. Go figure.
