Healthy Families, Helping Kids with ACME Market

The greatest motivations for me to continue on my Journey to Healthified are my daughters. I grew up inactive and eating relatively unhealthy. I didn't know how to eat right, and I chalked up my inactivity to being nonathletic. I didn't realize how simply walking each day counted toward getting my heart pumping. I didn't realize that small changes, like an apple and handful of almonds in place of  a bag of chips, go a long way to better health.

It's been a learning process.

Now that I have two little girls who fall under my responsibility to grow up healthy and strong, I want to do right by them. I want them to be instilled with the knowledge of what it means to be active and healthy. That being healthy and active leads to confidence and a better self-image. I want my girls to live long, happy lives.

Long happy lives start now.

Not just for my girls, but for all kids.

I was delighted to hear that over the next year, ACME Markets will be teaming up with Produce For Kids. The program will be designed to help busy parents easily find healthy snacks for their kids.

HELLO.

Can't we all use that??

For the month of October, ACME Markets and Produce For Kids will be running a campaign called Healthy Families, Helping Kids. The campaign supports local health and nutrition-based classroom projects in ACME markets through DonorsChoose.org.  This campaign will give teachers the opportunity and resources to teach their students about being healthy.  Better yet, they'll be getting help from Chef Chica, from the popular Sprout® original series, The Chica Show.

To get started, here are a few fall-inspired Produce for Kids recipes. Pumpkin Smoothies, Baked Apples and Turkey Chili? HECK YES! I can't wait to whip up a few of these, as they look like yummy treats for the whole family!
