SAVE COMMUNITY

I love Community.

OK, if you've read this blog, you know I love community.

But that's not what I'm here to talk about today.  No, I love Community, the sitcom on NBC.

In an effort of full disclosure, I didn't always love Community. When it first came out, I was all, "Eh." I'm not sure why. Perhaps I had thought it was going to be one way and it ended up being another (much like the moment when you reach into a bowl of M&M's and a Skittle finds it's way into the pile and it's all chocolate and fruity in your mouth which is kind of uncomfortable).

But over time, I kind of started to like it. The quirkiness became endearing. The characters grew on me.  I went from like to holding hands, which made it's way to making out.  It was not long before Community wrapped it's flesh-tearing brilliantly genius talons around me, and I found myself in love.

I fell in love with, what I believe to be, the smartest show on television since Arrested Development. Amazingly written episodes by a genius team of writers who are available to the fans (check them out on Twitter).  Intricate plot themes, often giving nod to those of us who love movies and television shows.  Many of the episodes are like mini-movies themselves, and if you are one of the few who understand the hidden nuances, count yourself part of the circle of trust. A cast of lovable (albeit, quirky) characters who are played by a cast of actors and actresses you can't help but want to be friends with. I fell in love with being Britta'd. I fell in love with a show that was Streets Ahead. I wanted to wake up with Troy and Abed in the morning.

I even got Hubby in on the action.  He wasn't a fan until I made him sit down all summer and watch every episode of the previous two seasons.  Hubby, too, fell in love.  When Fall fell upon us, we had the Community season premiere on the calendar.  Each week, we bide our time until 8pm on Thursday night, when we can reunite with our Community family.

So you can imagine this news hit me like a ton of bricks.

Community on hiatus? The future of the show in question?

This would be the saddest of all timelines.

How do I feel about Community's mid-season halt?  Hurt. Betrayed. Alone.  Giddy. Uncomfortable. Infatuated. Confused. But most of all, I feel helpless.  How does a peon of a Community fan just stand by as her beloved show's status is stake?  What does one do?

Well, she writes this post.

And then encourages you to do the same.

Yeah, it's a grassroots effort that will most likely lead no where, what with all 2 people reading it (hi, Mom!).  But I am writing this to stand up for a show I love, a show I believe in.  Even just one (small) voice (::singing in the darkness:: C'mon Manilow fans!) can make a difference. I know there are more of us Community lovers out there. So I ask you to spread the word and make a statement:

Save Community!  Do your part: Share this post. Tweet. Facebook. Tumble. Donkey Express. Occupy NBC. I don't care if you never read this blog again, but pass the message along.  Heck, write your own post.  Create your own tweets.

Together, let's take a stand for the future of Community.

  1. I love Community! I love Arrested Development more. WAY MORE. I was so excited to see that they are coming out with new episodes and the movie! It's really brilliant television. So is Community - hopefully your efforts will bring it back! :)

  2. I am so upset over this hiatus crap! I also was a fan of Arrested Development. What a shame that the decent TV shows seem to be the ones that go....
