Snowy Day Tasty Treats 1: Monkey Bread

There is nothing better than having good food on hand when you are stranded indoors due to an explosive snowstorm. Hubby and I are bunkered down, watching the first season of 30 Rock, while I intermittently scan photos from high school onto my computer and download them on Facebook.

I'm sure my friends, past and present, will be thanking me.

Earlier in the evening, I prepared my Snowy Day Tasty Treat #1. After an unfortunate accident making said treat on Christmas Day (it may or may not have involved an oven fire), I've been hesitant to give the recipe another try. Thanks to Megan over at A Day With the Demos, I have a different version of the recipe that comes with her stamp of approval! So tomorrow morning, it is my hope we will have freshly baked MONKEY BREAD (and no fires! Fingers AND toes crossed!). Here is:

Megan's Easy Monkey Bread Recipe
24 ounces frozen dinner roll dough
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 (3.4 ounce) package instant butterscotch pudding mix
1/4 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (we opt out of the nuts)
1/2 cup melted butter

Directions

1.The night or several hours before, grease and flour a 9 or 10 inch tube pan. Mix brown sugar and pudding mix together. Mix white sugar and cinnamon together. Place frozen dinner rolls in pan a layer at a time. Sprinkle brown sugar and pudding mix over first layer of rolls. Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon mixture over the brown sugar and pudding mixture. Spread half the nuts and melted butter over first layer. Repeat with the next layer.

2.Place on counter over night. Do not cover. Next morning bake in a preheated 350 degrees F oven for 30 minutes. Let stand a few minutes and turn pan over onto serving platter.

  2. I did not even finish reading your post and I had to comment... I did the EXACT same thing this weekend making MONKEY BREAD - how funny is that? Well, it's not funny - but you know?

I literally had a fire in the oven (scared me to death) because of the littles running around and I was trying to remain calm....needless to say - you knwo what I was doing today? Cleaning the oven. Yuck!! What a job that was.
Now back to reading the rest of your post...
