Tasty Treat Thursday: Chocolate Chip Cake

It has been a while since a Tasty Treat posting. I've definitely EATEN a lot of Tasty Treats recently, but have lacked on new and exciting posting material.

Until 2 weeks ago.

My friends, Jen and Rob, had invited us over to their home for dinner and dessert. Our Little Chica is very good friends with their son, A (who is the fodder for many photos and posting on their family blog). It was a great way to spend a Friday night, and even better because we were celebrating Rob's birthday!

To make the celebration festive (and tasty), Jen made Rob his favorite cake. Rob had come across this recipe at work, and fell in love (while still remaining true to his wife). I watched Jen make the cake (which is semi-homemade and VERY simple to put together). I watched Jen bake the cake. I then proceeded to eat the cake.

Oh. My. Goodness.

It was SO GOOD! I asked for the recipe, and Jen happily handed it over. The ingredients used are some of the Usual Suspects that occupy my pantry, and since it is semi-homemade, it is QUICK and SIMPLE.

YES!

So, with the holidays coming up and plenty of entertaining to be done, I wanted to pass the recipe along to you. Let me (and Jen!) know what you think!

Tasty Treat Thursday

Chocolate Chip Cake

  • 1 pkg yellow cake mix
  • 1 box (small) Instant vanilla pudding
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 12-oz bag of Chocolate Chips
  • Cinnamon Sugar (can be found in spice aisle, or made with 3 parts sugar, 1 part cinnamon)

1) Mix all ingredients through salt together and pour into a floured pan.

2) Sprinkle Cinnamon sugar to taste (reserve 1 TBS) over the top of the batter then swirl with a fork to mix into the batter

3) Add Chocolate Chips to the cake mix, reserving 1/4 cup

4) Bake at 350 degrees for 40 mins.

5) After letting cake rest for 20 mins, sprinkler emaining cinnamon sugar and chocolate chips on top and continue baking until knife comes out clean.

Doesn't it sound DIVINE? The pudding makes the cake SO MOIST, while the cinnamon sugar gives it a bit of spice. YUM! It goes super well with coffee.

Thank you, Jen, for sharing the recipe!
