Tasty (SIMPLE) Treat Thursday: Mexican Brownies

I can't say enough how much I love SIMPLE recipes. If it has 2 or 3 ingredients and tastes awesome, how can I argue? This recipe comes from my MIL, Martha (who had this little treat at a recent office party). She told me about it, and I got to actually try it this past Sunday. All I can say is...

Tasty Treat Thursdays

Mexican Brownies

  • 1 box brownie mix (with ingredients listed on the box - varies with each mix)
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp of cayenne -OR- chipotle pepper powder

1) Empty dry brownie mix into a bowl. Add cinnamon and pepper to mix.

2) Add remaining wet ingredients, according to brownie mix box (eggs? oil? water? butter? Each box is different).

3) Bake according to package directions.

4) EAT 'EM UP!

These brownies have a great spicy kick, but not overwhelmingly HOT. They are the perfect creation for my husband and I: I love dessert, he loves spicy stuff. A match made in heaven!

So, if you are looking for that unique and original dessert for your holiday weekend, give this a try - it's simple, cheap and TOTALLY TASTY!

Do you have another brownie variation you'd like to share, or a different tasty treat recipe all together? Get in touch with me, so I can share it on the blog!

PS: I'll have some good grill/BBQ recipes either later today or tomorrrow. Stay tuned!

  1. I must say I was taken back when I read the title Mexican Brownies... and then read the ingredients. But! MY HUBBY would probably love them... he loves all things hot. I'll have to try this recipe next time.

thanks for your comment the other day...yea, the day did get much better after that, but in fact we ended up having a similar "scenario" the next morning, but in the downstairs bathroom instead. Busy Boy!!

  2. can't wait to try these!! (tip... did you know you can substitute applesauce or ground flax for the oil?) :-) L

Hey! Share a thought or two - I'd love to hear from you! ~ Steph
