True Life Stay-At-Home Confessional

The weather here in southeastern PA is BLAH, COLD and GREY. That being said, I did not feel terribly inspired by my locality, thus not writing up a Local Flavor yesterday. I spent a lot of time chasing after my newly-mobile baby and preparing for dinner, as we had a guest come to eat with us. I used the weather and our guest as an excuse to indulge in one of my favorite delights. I'm sure many of you share this love, but I share with you today's confessional:

I love cookie dough with a passion...

...and sometimes find any excuse to make it...

...and while I do make cookies with it in the end...

...my joy comes from stealing spoonfuls of it's sweet, gritty goodness.

It's so true. You know something is good if there is an ice cream flavor dedicated to it. Most times, I could care less about the end result (ie: cookies). I find excuses to make cookies just so I can get at that dough. There is something SO comforting about it. Before I was married, I sometimes spent a Friday night curled up on the couch with a tube of cookie dough and a spoon, watching a chick flick. Although he will never admit it, I did introduce this tradition to my husband, who secretly enjoyed it. He prefers the outcome (ie: cookies) to the actual dough. I can forgive him for this.

While my dough of choice is chocolate chip, there are few doughs I will turn my nose up at. Oatmeal Cookie Dough, Spice Cookie Dough, Pizzelle Cookie Dough, Biscotti Cookie Dough, Sugar Cookie Dough. It's like a menu to Gooey Heaven. I've never had it, but I believe I'd pass up on something called, "Bran Cookie Dough," although you never know.

I will put up a disclaimer: It's technically not safe to eat cookie dough, due to the raw egg. But I like to live on the edge. Cookie Dough is about as daring as I get.

So now that I am home most days, I find myself making cookies often. What are my excuses?

"I'm sure my husband could use a treat tonight after a hard days work..."

Or, "We'll be having guests tonight...or tomorrow...or this week...hey honey, how about we invite some people over tomorrow night..."

Or, "I should make some treats for my husband to bring to school to share in the teachers lounge..."

And some days, I just admit to myself,

"I need me some cookie dough."

Have a good week! I hear it will be a good one to bake some cookies...

  1. This made me laugh! i hope you enjoy your cookie dough (I just can't get past the raw egg thing, so I don't eat it) - and it's going to be a BEAUTIFUL weekend here in PA! 70-degrees and sunny!

  2. a warning from one who knows this vice well... never buy that giant tub of cookie dough! it SAYS you can make something like 5 batches of cookies with it... I've never made more than one! glad to know I'm not alone in this! :-) Laura
