Prom Season is Upon Us!

Do you remember prom?

As a high schooler, I went to a handful of proms, both my own and as the date of a friend. Prom is the mystical magical life experience that has been built up through movies, television, advertising and even literature. It's kind of the pinnacle of one's teenage years.  The night is meant to be epic, and I remember  spending many days agonizing over the hair style, my date, the flowers, the shoes and, most of all, the dress.

The youth of today are lucky that there is such an amazing online presence for shopping. In "my day," had to flip through catalogs and, gasp, visit the brick-and-mortar store. Now, eager prom shoppers can peruse dresses on sites like JenJenHouse, which has a gorgeous selection of wares to pick from!

Can we agree that dresses are way cooler today, by the way?

Like, I chose what was the equivalent of a ball gown for my senior prom from a really posh shop at my local mall. I wish I'd seen this a decade ago (and that it had been in style) because it's so refined!

Doesn't she look like she's about to accept an Academy Award?!

As you look through dresses, JenJenHouse even gives you recommended styles to help your search stay easy and fun (http://www.jenjenhouse.com/Prom-Dresses-c18/recommend/).  I may not be going to a prom ever again, but I do attend weddings and have even been invited to some gala-esque events, so I am definitely going to check out JenJenHouse next time I need a new fancy frock!

I know that in a day in the not-so-distant future, I will be agonizing with my two daughters over colors, fabrics and styles as they approach their Big Prom Night. I can't imagine how the prom dress search will change by the time my girls hit high school, but I can't wait to get girly over chiffon!

Say No to Sinus Infections #SUDAFEDREPLAY

Sinus infections have become a regular part of my life. I can know, with certainty, that every October I will get hit with one. It will start as a slightly stuffy nose, that worsens a little bit each day, until I can no longer breathe. In time, the pressure arrives in my cheeks and eyebrows, which is a pain that I can feel internally and externally.

This year, I had one of my worst sinus infections ever.

(Steph note: If you are easily grossed out, I suggest you skip ahead now).

The pain started in the beginning of October, right on time. The pressure was terrible. I made my own heating pad out of a sock filled with rice so I could perfectly drape it across both of my cheeks at the same time. I could feel the tension in my teeth!  During my infection, I took a short road trip to visit my sister. It was during this time I realized that the sinus infection had also become an ear infection. I'd never been in so much pain in my entire life. The dry sockets in my sinuses were burning, my ear was throbbing and the pressure was so bad I actually asked, "Can my cheek blow up?"

The final straw was toward the end of the infection. In the middle of one night, I woke up with two additional symptoms: a sore throat and difficulty swallowing. After some struggling, I fell back asleep. In the morning, my throat was still sore and swallowing wasn't any easier. As I was brushing my teeth I noticed something in my throat that caught my attention. As I was trying to cough through some of my congestion, I noticed that part of my problem swallowing was that the hangy-thing (correct term: uvula) was incredibly swollen and hanging so low it touched my tongue.

I know, right?

Needless to say, I've lost many weeks of my life to long-lasting sinus infections.
